Ayam Betutu Khas Gilimanuk Bali

Ayam Bertutu Bali 01

Looking for tantalizing spicy chicken in Bali? Then you must try Ayam Betutu Bali! I mean REAL spicy, one grade spicier than the Nandos Peri-Peri Chicken I would say.

Ayam Betutu Gilimanuk (Bali style spicy braised chicken).

Ayam Bertutu Bali 07

This restaurant is located at the areas that is seldom explored by tourists. We were brought by our appointed guide here. It’s not that far from Kuta, at Jalan Raya Tuban, about 1.5km from Legian. Customers are mostly the locals. If you’re looking for some local taste, this shop has a big variety of foods to choose from. It’s one of the most delicious meal in Bali for us, the local Balinese cuisine. Price is also exceptionally friendly, starting Rp 5,000 for foods and beverages.

Ayam Bertutu Bali 03

These chicken are free range chicken (kampung chicken) that run around in the countryside and feed on natural vegetation, hence, the meat have less fat with a better texture than the battery chicken.

Ayam Goreng (Fried chicken).

Ayam Bertutu Bali 04

The side dishes/condiments. Salted peanuts, and my favorite Sambal Mentah, which is a mix of chopped shallot, garlic, shrimp paste, small green chilies, turmeric, lemon-grass, pepper, and another few more herbs and spices…

Ayam Bertutu Bali 05

Kangkung (water spinach) with chili paste. Don’t touch the chili if you think that our chili sauce is just spicy enough..

Ayam Bertutu Bali 06

Ares Kuwir (Spicy soup). It may not look appetizing in the yellowish soup base, but the taste is just opposite!

My Rank: 4.5/5 (I love spicy food!)

Dulang Kafe & Bakery, Kuta Bali

Dulang Restaurant Kuta Bali 01

Located next to the entrance of Matahari Departmental store, this is a restaurant worth trying out when you do your shopping along Kuta Square. It can get really crowded in the evenings, but I found most of the diners would prefer to sit at the open air area, probably because you can feel the vibes of Kuta Square.

But due to I’ve had enough of sunburn (now I look like a Red-Indian..), I rather sit inside. The ambiance is so relaxing, most importantly, I need air-conditioning.

Lunch at Kintamani

When you go to Bali, try to make a trip up the volcano (Batur crater) or, at least have lunch at Kintamani. Soothe yourself in the cool weather of a higher altitude, while enjoying a buffet meal before moving on to another destination. Weather is hell hot in Kuta, but it’s so much cooler here!

Here we are, in a restaurant overlooking the beautiful Lake Batur. (direction where the bear looks)

Our table. Number 24.

>Jimbaran Bay Seafood

>When people talk about seafood and sunset in Bali, the first place that comes to their mind is Jimbaran Bay. Am I right? But in this post I’m not going to talk about the sunset, in fact, I’m going to share about the sunrise and breakfast at Jimbaran Bay. Hoho~

Surprised? Breakfast at Jimbaran Bay?

Hmm…

Gotcha! It’s lunch at Jimbaran Bay.

Marvelous sunshine. Best time for photo shooting. But DSLR requires skill and I’m not mastering it yet. Now I appreciate the excellence of a compact camera. One shot done deal. Especially the vivid colors of my Lumix.

If you’re not prepared for this, stay indoor when you’re at Bali.

Or bring an umbrella.

Or get a higher SPF sunblock.

I just accompanied my friend Jenny to get the SPF130 PA+++ sunblock last week. She’s in Bali now. I don’t know if she’d regret for going to Bali because she’s so afraid of the sun…

The grill fish was nice. But other than fish, everything else was also grilled. That’s the style of Jimbaran Bay seafood. Don’t put too high hope as many people thinks that seafood here is overrated. Perhaps… but I still like the fish because though it’s grilled it still tastes juicy.

>Babi Guling Ibu Oka

>Warning!! This is not a halal post. Balinese food is non-halal, and they definitely love pork.

I think the majority who visited Bali would have tried Babi Guling. It is indeed a nice delicacy, crispy pork with lots of seasoned long beans, and served with not-so-spicy chili paste (don’t trust me too much when I say it’s not spicy… I eat chili padi with rice quite often)

I’m not sure how many other restaurants are famous of selling Babi Guling, but it is pretty easy to find Babi Guling in Bali (not eat-in in restaurants I mean). You see, it is comparable with our Nasi Lemak, you can find it almost anywhere in Bali.

Before we left, another freshly roasted pig was delivered to the stall. Many people claim it as suckling pig, but I was doubtful about it… Roasted suckling pig we used to have in Malaysia is only 1/3 the size of this one. Anyhow, the most important thing is the food is worth for money right? It is.
